Who we are

In 1883 in Liege, Belgium, George Montefiore founded one of the first European schools involved with the training of electrical engineers, the Montefiore Institute, today called the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Liege. Three years later, in 1886, Montefiore founded an association which comprised a gathering of the alumni of this school, that is still active today, the association of the Alumni of the Montefiore Institute (AIM for short). Our vision: To promote the Montefiore Institute and its Alumni

The Association des Alumni de l’Institut Montefiore (AIM) aims to ensure the scientific influence of the skills of its members and of the Institut Montefiore, to promote their networking, and to organize events in the Liège region, in Belgium and abroad.

The AIM reaches these goals through its activities :

  • Administration of its members database;
  • Organization of networking events for its members;
  • Transmission of information to its members ;
  • Support for the Montefiore Institute of the University of Liège and its students;
  • Organization of CIRED events, as a member of the aisbl CIRED;
  • Organization of AIM scientific events (study days,…);
  • Organization of scientific events as a consultancy;
  • Member of Ingénieurs sans Frontières;
  • Member of FABI.
A propos AIM

Today, this association boasts more than 800 members working in many countries throughout the world. Most of its members are Montefiore Institute graduates (Electrical Engineer, Electromechanical Engineer, Computer Engineer, Biomedical Engineer, Physics Engineer, Data Science Engineer, Energy Engineer, Master’s Degree in Data Science and Master’s Degree in Computer Science).

AIM is officially recognised as a non-profit

Today, the AIM ensures the administration of its members. Alongside its functions as an alumni association, its main activity is the organization of scientific conferences from the academic or industrial fields. The AIM organizes events in Belgium and abroad, from 50 to 2000 participants. The AIM organizes events in Belgium and abroad, from 50 to 2000 participants.

Every 4 years since 1971, it has organized the CIRED (International Congress on Electrical Distribution Networks) conference and exhibition, which attracts over 1,500 participants.
